The Importance Of Website FAQs

January 17, 2025 / Justin Widdop

I love a good comeback. In fact, I think everyone loves a good comeback.

Whether it’s your favourite sports team that scores a last-minute winner or a band from your younger years that reveals its huge comeback tour, we all love them!

Let me tell you what else is coming back in the world of websites… FAQs.

Frequently asked questions may not be sexy or cool, but they are very much becoming an essential addition to any website no matter what you do or what services or products you offer.

If you go back a number of years, then most websites would have had frequently asked questions. Over time they have become less and less popular to the point that in many ways they have faded out. They became a thing of the past.

Until now.

They are back. More and more businesses are adding FAQs to their websites. We have noticed it as a trend and many agencies like ours are suggesting the addition of FAQs to their clients websites.

Why?

Let me give you the 3 key reasons why FAQs are a good addition to any website:

  1. FAQs are great for SEO. By their very nature frequently asked questions can be full of keywords. The very words that you want to be found for on Google will play an essential part in the structure and makeup of your frequently asked questions. By strategically adding these to your website, you are giving Google more to work with and therefore improving the chance of increased ranking for your website.
  2. FAQs actually help your customers. Answering questions your customers are asking is never a bad idea.
  3. FAQs save you time. Many of the questions you are repeatedly being asked by your potential customers can now be asked and answered without having to take up your precious time.

So, now we have convinced you that adding FAQs to your website is a good idea, what should the plan be as to where to add them?

Our suggestion would be a twofold approach.

Step one would be to create a main FAQ page. This is where all your FAQs sit and the link to this page can go in your main menu structure. When you start working through this if you find you have lots of FAQs you may want to look at breaking them down into categories. You don’t want a super long list of FAQs because that defeats the object. But this page exists so your website visitors can get answers to the questions they want answered.

The next step is to add specific FAQs to your service pages. For example, if you are an accountancy firm one of your services may be payroll. On the payroll page have some FAQs that are just for that service. The key questions and answers related to your payroll service. You are killing two birds with one stone by doing this. You are helping your potential new customers with the questions they have, and you are also helping that page rank better on Google. This is giving you more chance of being found online for your payroll service. It is a win-win.

If you are not a service-based business, then you can do this for your products instead.

Adding FAQs in this way is a clever strategy for any website. It’s not massive amounts of work but the benefits are multiple.
